Five Police Officers Convicted of Robbery and Bribery in Plovdiv

The Supreme Court of Cassation (SCC) upheld a decision of the Plovdiv Court of Appeals, confirming the sentences of five defendant police officers convicted of robbing cigarettes and taking bribes. This was announced by the press center of the Judicial Chamber in Plovdiv.

An intelligence officer from the Criminal Police at the OD of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Plovdiv and a police officer from the Municipal Guard were sentenced to six years in prison each. The court also deprived them of the right to hold office in the Ministry of Internal Affairs for a period of six years. One of them was fined 6,000 leva.

The two were found guilty for a robbery and bribe that were commited in December 2016 in Plovdiv. They used force and threats in order to rob cigarettes without excise labels and money worth a total of 41,502 leva.
