Volunteers Saved the Mosaics of the Buzludzha Monument From Destruction

Efforts to save the monument on Buzludzha Peak continue. For two years, volunteers raised funds and restored the monument. Thanks to their efforts, the unique mosaics were saved and protected before the onset of winter.

The mosaics of Buzludzha, located on 1000 square meters, are the largest panel of its kind in Europe. However, their condition was catastrophic, and protective facilities were built around them.

For the outer mosaic circle alone, 600 square meters of specialized textiles have been used to protect the panel from wind and moisture.

The condition of the mosaics in the winter will be monitored online, which is helped by another volunteer. The funds for the construction of the protective facilities were procured during the "Aspen Mosaic" campaign, which involved more than 10 organizations and individuals.

The next goal is to open the monument to visitors. Everyday hundreds of people from all over Bulgaria, regardless of the weather conditions, come to Buzludzha to see the monument. The big goal of the restoration teams, which also include international experts, is to restore the roof over the Buzludzha Monument.
