A Series of Earthquakes in Turkey and Greece

A series of earthquakes, the strongest of which with a magnitude of 5.1, shook the region of Izmir, southwestern Turkey this morning, the Anatolian Agency reported. The first and strongest earthquake occurred at 7 o'clock local time in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Izmir. The epicenter was about 56 kilometers from the town of Urla, Izmir district.

A second earthquake was felt ten minutes later. It had a magnitude of 4.3 and a depth of 7.16 km. The quake was also located in the Aegean Sea near Izmir. According to the earthquake activity data on the AFAD website, the 5.1 earthquake was followed by a total of six aftershocks in the Aegean Sea in the Izmir region so far. They had a magnitude between 2.1 and 4.3.

At 6am Bulgarian time today an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale was registered 15 kilometers southwest of the island of Samos in Greece.

There are no reported of damages caused by the earthquakes.
