Wellcome, Life!

The first topic in our Finance & Life Insurance column is about the impact of subjectivity, namely, what is the role of the finance & insurance consultant. I decided to open with this topic because Highstreet magazine is all about people and personalities; their lifestyle and work experience; their personal efforts, time, creativity and skills.

The role of the consultant is to do an analysis of our requirements in order to safeguard our standard of life, to produce individual solutions and if we a/ haven’t mislead them and b/ have taken their advices on board – be there for us and our close ones during the course of our life. It is likely that you may find similarities to other occupations from your circle in this text?!

Wellcome, Life!

There are meetings in life that we remember, and there are those that make us the unforgettable ones; there are meetings that we do not look forward to, and those we can’t wait for. In general, there are a few things you can expect at your appointment with a finance & insurance consultant:

In 98% of the cases you are not the person who initiated the appointment (when was the last time you caught yourself sitting on your cosy sofa, that yellow one to the left of the dining table, and wrote down in your diary “Call the life insurance agent, Tuesday 16 o’clock”)

At your meeting with a professional they won’t kick off with a presentation about their products, offers and prices. Life insurance is not about sales, it is about services tailored to the individual requirements

At the end of such an appointment you either schedule the next one or you put your relationship to a halt… for at least some time

It is relationships that are the core of any finance & life insurance consultation:

  • Your relationship with relatives
  • Your approach in thinking about the present and the future
  • The relationship you have with yourself
  • Your grasp of the notions of responsibility and common sense
  • How you regard the person opposite you – your consultant

The latter is a relationship to last for a very long time, if not for your whole life: if you were lucky to meet “the person” to look after your health and finances, in the space of 20 years you would receive valuable information about the most suitable Plan B for your student years, at the start of your career, when you have a family, the beginning of a new business and for the planning of your children’s education… or if you just want to save for something extravagant. This means your consultant will be there for you at all stages of your life.

Each stage of life brings different risks and opportunities concerning the protection of your finances.

In short: security for your standard of life today and in the future. These are good life insurance companies’ true domains. They have all the expertise to measure the risks of those meetings in life that can potentially be very difficult, and the ones we have been looking forward to impatiently.

It is your decision whether you go to this kind of meeting, and how you end it. But I personally would start with Good day, Life!
